Read MoreYes, it can be done…. and you won’t believe how easy it is.
After searching youtube, forums, blogs, and just about every other corner of the internet I could think of looking, I finally found a way.
All you need is ProPresenter 7 by Renewed Vision, a dual monitor HDMI adapter (I use this one from Belkin) and an ATEM Mini by Blackmagic Design. (note: you will need to use 2 HDMI input channels on your switcher)
ProPresenter 7 was developed for houses of worship, so if you download a copy, you’ll definitely see features that lean toward that audience. However, in my opinion, it is the best and most feature-packed graphic display software available on the market. If you produce live video, it is DEFINITELY worth the $399 price and yearly $275 yearly renewal. (you might be thinking….”Meh, that’s a little much”. Trust me, there’s nothing else on the market that comes remotely close to its features.
Okay, Okay…. let’s get on with it.
(Disclaimer: I’m not going to go into the technicalities of keying…. I’m just going to put you on the bike and push you. If you want to learn the science, you’ll have to look elsewhere.)
Step 1
Plug in your dual monitor HDMI adapter and insert your HDMI cables from your adapter to your ATEM Switcher
Step 2
Open ProPresenter 7
Step 3
Go to Screens>Configure Screens
Step 4
Select Your Audience Screen
Step 5
Change the dropdown menu item “Single” to “Mirror”
Step 6
After the two displays appear assign them each to their own individual BMD outputs. (note: do not assign them to the same output)
Step 7
On the 2nd display, to go the “Color” menu tab and click the “Enable” checkbox. Then bring all the values (red, green, blue, gamma, black) to 1.00 (100%)
On your ATEM Multiview, you will see your 1st HDMI input in full color (this is your RGB channel) , the 2nd HDMI output will be solid WHITE. (this is your alpha channel)
Step 9
Go to your Downstream Key Menu (I use DSK1 in the video)
Step 10
Assign your 1st BMD display output to your “Fill” – Assign your 2nd display output to your “Key”
Now try a motion graphic with your DSK turned on.
You should be good to go!
